Following reports in recent weeks that development on God of War II was underway, Sony has today confirmed that the game, a follow-up to last year's title, is currently in production ahead of a release during the first quarter of 2007.

Once again taking control of Kratos, players will have to journey to ends of the Earth in order to end the new God of War's eternal torment. God of War II will see Kratos command new magic and combat moves as he continues his quest and battle against some of mythology's greatest foes.

Announcing God of War II, creator David Jaffe commented "In the gaming world, it's rare that a sequel equals, let alone eclipses the original, but I think this is going to be the exception to the rule in terms of quality, gameplay and story. I always said that God of War was my dream game, well no longer, God of War II really is the game I've always wanted to play."
