Both Wii and DS will be getting the Geometry Wars treatment this autumn...

Bizarre Creations has today confirmed that Geometry Wars, the unofficial poster-title of Xbox Live Arcade, will be released on Nintendo DS and Wii this autumn courtesy of Sierra Entertainment.

The game, which has been christened Geometry Wars: Galaxies, is currently in development at UK-based Kuju Entertainment and will feature a solar system hopping Campaign mode, together with Retro Evolved, and even multiplayer gameplay. Today's confirmation from Bizarre also includes news that new enemies and weapons will feature in the title, and that both instalments will take advantage of the unique control systems available across both platforms. Announcing the title, the Liverpool-based studio commented:

"Of course, the control method is super important when developing for Nintendo platforms. Cakey worked on some prototype Wii control methods before the talented guys at Kuju stepped in, and we found at least 2 different methods which worked really well. We've prototyped on the DS too with similar success, so we're confident that the games will play superbly on the new platforms and will avoid the trap of adding a new control method just for the sake of it."

"The Geometry Wars: Galaxies videogame is an entertaining title blending old-school arcade fun with next-gen gameplay and action," said Al Simone, SVP of Global Marketing for Sierra Entertainment. "We are excited to bring the Geometry Wars brand to the Nintendo platform as both the Wii and DS enable a fun and frenetic experience for gamers."

Geometry Wars has already been released on PC and mobile platforms, nevertheless the transition to Wii and DS is a tad more surprising. Will a 'Geometry Wars 3' also hit PGR4 on Xbox 360 later this year?
