Gears 2 Sales Refuse To Slow News

Epic confirms triple-platinum status for the Xbox 360 sequel; could it rival the 8m units of Halo 3...

Gears of War 2 continues to be one of the most popular titles currently being played over Xbox Live, currently laying in second position, and sales of the shooter are also holding up well, with confirmation from Epic Games' Vice President that it has passed through the three million unit mark.

Speaking briefly to Edge, Mark Rein confirmed the figure, which had been hinted at by Microsoft Games Studios chief, Phil Spector, in an interview with Larry 'Major Nelson' Hryb: "Microsoft [the game's publisher] confirmed to me this afternoon that Gears of War 2 sell-through surpassed 3 million units as of last week."

According to the publication's online spin-off, the original Gears of War took ten weeks to break through three million units, whereas the sequel has only taken four. In addition, it's worth pointing out that it took Halo 3 twelve weeks to sell 8 million units – only five million more to go...
