During a financial announcement, Take-Two confirm a rough release date for the next title in the series...
Take-Two today confirmed a rough release plan for the next instalment in the ‘Grand Theft Auto’ series.

Speaking at the 20th Annual Technology Conference in New York City, Cindi BuckWalter, Executive Vice-President of Take-Two Interactive, confirmed that the next title is scheduled for release in Q4 2004.

Unsurprisingly the company refused to offer any further details, only claiming that the company wanted to give the market a ‘breather’ and release it next year.

We’ve widely suspected that the next title will arrive on the Playstation2 exclusively (for a period), and will be entitled ‘GTA: San Andreas’. This originally stems back from a report we featured back in January, claiming that Take-Two had registered the domain names www.gtasanandreas.com and www.grandtheftautosanandreas.com. GTA fans will also recognise San Andreas as one of the three locations in the original GTA, alongside Liberty City and Vice City; it may be putting 2+2 together and coming up with 5, however we’re convinced that this will happen.

A source also confirmed this to us, claiming that the next big step in the GTA series would be ‘GTA4’ and released on next-generation systems. The lengthy release date also backs up the fact that the games developers, RockStar North, have spent this year developing the forthcoming Playstation2 title ‘Manhunt’; presumably with that out of the way, they’re free to begin work on the next GTA title.

What we don’t know at present is specific details on the title; we’ve largely suggested that GTA: San Andreas will follow suit with ‘Vice City’ and be staged in a different time-zone, presumably the 70’s would be the next logical step for the series.

We’ll have more on ‘GTA: San Andreas’ soon.
