The PSP 'exclusive' GTA title set to jump to PlayStation2 in the opening months of 2006...
Seems that Take2 can't get enough of Grand Theft Auto and Rockstar with the announcement that the PSP's GTA: Liberty City Stories is expected to be released on PlayStation2 between February and April 2006. Delving into the company's financial report for the end of the fiscal year (ending October 31st 2005), Take2 confirms that the game is being, for want of a better term, backwards-ported to the home console though a more specific release date is yet to be announced.
Although Liberty City Stories was one of the highlight titles for PSP towards the end of 2005, the fact is that the game was more restrictive than the previous GTA title San Andreas, though this was always put down to it being a handheld title. But now that the game is set to make the leap to PlayStation2, what extra incentives will be given to gamers - a £19.99 price tag perhaps? With the sublime San Andreas continuing to set the benchmark in sandbox gaming, will the GTA3/Vice City gameplay of Liberty City Stories be enough to satisfy the needs of GTA fans or will the release just be milking the hugely successful brand?
One more thing: Rockstar Leeds produced the original title, but with the studio handheld specialists, is the PS2 version being created by GTA stalwarts Rockstar North?
