Having done snowboarding and basketball EA Big try their hand at the world of motocross.
After successfully applying their own distinctive style to the snowboarding and basketball genres, EA BIG’s next foray is into the increasing popular world of motocross. Freekstyle promises to offer the same OTT action and humour that made their first two titles such a success, and from initial inspection you can definitely tell this is a member of the BIG lineup.

Freekstyle is very similar to SSX Tricky, the control system uses the same intuitive shoulder button interface to pull of the tricks, of which there are over 80 to perform including the likes of the McMetz, Saran wrap, superman seat grab, the roll, the helicopter and the 360 to name but a few. Some of the tricks are even more ludicrous then those found in SSX Tricky, one four-button trick sees your driver levitate above their seats in the lotus position!

Whilst stunts give you speed boost, pull of enough and you’ll activate a Tricky-like bonus state where you can maintain your boost continuously as long as you carry on performing tricks successfully. It’s the same thing that made SSX and SSX Tricky so great, fans of these titles will instantly be able to come to Freekstyle, pick up the pad and go…

There are eight different competitors for you to choose from, including freestyle sensations Mike Metzger, leader of the Metal Mulissha, Brian Deegan, Stefy Bau, Clifford “The Flyin’ Hawaiian” Adpptante, Jessica Patterson and Greg ‘Albee’ Albertyn. As with their previous titles, each of the characters has their own very unique personality and attributes. As of yet it’s unknown whether any celebrities will be called upon to voice these this time around.

Nine different venues will challenge riders to take on some of the most outrageous freestyle terrain on tracks such as Rocket Garden, Crash Pad II, Monumental Motoplex and the ultimate big air course, Big Sky. The environments have been designed with one thing in mind, fun, to this end expect lots of opportunities to grab air and gain some serious speed.

As with the SSX games the visuals aren’t overly detailed or amazing, however they come together extremely well thanks to the distinct visual style used throughout.

The game will feature four different modes, Circuit, Race and Freestyle and Freeride. Each of these can be raced in a two-player split screen mode.
