The Football Manager 2008 code is finally ready to be boxed and shipped off for us all to enjoy...

It seems nobody told Sports Interactive that Premiership Football isn't the Olympic Games as Football Manager 2008 has just gone gold (I can almost hear the groans from that one - sorry). The finishing touches have been made to the latest version of the much loved series and, with a bit of packaging and some stamps, it'll be on our shop shelves very soon.

Now, we know that all you FM addicts are twitching like mad as you've no doubt found every wonderkid that FM 2007 has to offer and taken Cambridge United to European glory. So, we're glad to let you know that there's a demo available if you really can't wait until October 19th. Incidentally, upon its release on 30th September, this demo was downloaded 250,000 times in its first two days, which doubles last year's numbers.

The 'vanilla' demo version is the express route to ease your withdrawal symptoms. Running only in English and limited to Scottish and English leagues, this version runs as a skeleton demo without player photos or logos. Find it here.

For the more discerning or continental FM fan, there's the 'strawberry' demo. This comes with multiple language translations, a large array of leagues to quick start from and all player pictures and logos. This demo can be found at the SI website.

FM 2008 will be released for PC and Mac on October 19th 2007 (October 26th in Spain - expect riots).

That's gotta be wrong...  FM08 shouldn't take up much more than 1GB of HDD space.

I'd recommend uninstalling it all (from Control Panel) and starting again...

Sorry mate, I'm stumped on that one. 39.8 GB is a lot of space though. Can you confirm that that much space has actually gone from your hard drive (i.e. by right clicking on your C drive in 'My Computer' and selecting 'Properties'), or is it just the FM08 file that lists a 39.8 GB size?

Also, if you can get hold of the error description from the installation log (you might be able to find that as a notebook file in the FM08 folder on your hard drive), then paste it up on our comment board and I'll see if I can find a solution online.

Okay, try uninstalling everything that relates to FM 2008 on your hard drive (go "Control Panel", "Add or Remove Programs" etc.), as well as any other FM08 files.

Then make sure that nothing is running on your desktop (no browser windows etc.) and install the game using the method I mentioned before.

When running through the installer, be sure to tick the box "Create Desktop Shortcut". If you're running the game in Vista, this might be what is responsible for the installation errors.

Let me know if that works.
