Job ads for Microsoft Game Studios make clear reference to a Flight Sim LIVE project, indicating a return to the series for Microsoft...
In 2006, Microsoft released Flight Simulator X, the last in its long-running series of flight sim games that date back to 1982 and number 12 separate iterations over a 24-year stretch. Then, in 2009, Microsoft closed the developer of its Flight Sim games, ACES Game Studio, and appeared to effectively kill off the franchise in the process.
However, a job ad over on the Microsoft Game Studios site is currently looking to attract Software Development Engineers for a "Flight Sim LIVE" project, clearly indicating that Microsoft has plans to revive the series at some point in future. Microsoft's 'Games For Windows LIVE' branding of the project also indicates that it's destined for PC.
Since Microsoft confirmed the closure of ACES Game Studio in January 2009, developers from the studio have formed an independent team called Cascade Game Foundry, which is currently at work on flight simulators of its own.
Could this signify a flight simulator showdown between Microsoft and its former Padawan?
