No random battles as Tsuchida-san spearheads the charge behind Final Fantasy XIII...

Speaking to the Japanese gaming magazine Gemaga, Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed the role of Toshiro Tsuchida to lead the creation of the Battle System featured in Final Fantasy XIII.

Previously responsible for replacing the Active Time Battle (ATB) with the Conditional Turn-Based Battle (CTB) system featured in Final Fantasy X, Tsuchida-san credits also include the Front Mission series.

Although acting as Lead Character Designer on all three titles that make up the Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII project, Nomura-san directorial duties lie solely with Final Fantasy Versus XIII, so whether the announcement regards this title exclusively is currently undetermined. Despite the switch, Nomura-san stressed that random battles will not be making a return in Final Fantasy XIII, after their controversial removal in Final Fantasy XII.

Thanks for bringing that to our attention.  Was entered as March 9th 2009 instead of 2010.  Just to confirm, it's coming out next year on March 9th 2010 in Europe.

A FFVI remake would be more exciting to see and would make more sense than a FFVIII remake since FFVIII already has 3D graphics. I would only roll my eyes at a FFVII remake. Seriously, the world's gone way beyond sloppy seconds with those characters and that universe as it is.
