All intellectual rights to the game and engine acquired by the French publisher...

With all the attention surrounding EA and CryTek's Crysis, Ubisoft today announced an agreement with the German based developer to acquire all the remaining intellectual property rights related to Far Cry, along with a perpetual license to use the CryENGINE Far Cry edition.

The agreement grants Ubisoft the entire rights to the brand, including characters, likenesses, copyrights and environmental settings, allowing the French publisher to develop and publish sequels, add-ons, derivative and merchandising product on any platform.

The acquisition of the Far Cry Edition of the CryENGINE provides another production pipeline for Ubisoft, whose many internal development studios and affiliated companies will take the engine to the next level.

"Far Cry is one of Ubisoft's most successful brands and this agreement is one further step in our strategy to constantly enrich our catalogue of fully owned brands. With Far Cry, we look forward to further consolidating our leading position in the first person shooters genre" said Yves Guillemot, President & CEO of Ubisoft Entertainment.
