The already huge game world of Far Cry 2 is set to be dwarfed by Far Cry 3's map...
Far Cry 2 was not a small game world. In fact, it boasted one huge map for the first half of the game, and an entirely new map (also huge) for the second part of the story. The world was twice the size of Oblivion's, and nearly half the size of World of Warcraft's.
So, when a developer on the upcoming sequel, Far Cry 3 says that this next instalment in the series is going to be 10 times the scale of its predecessor, that's quite literally a huge claim.
"If you look at the vistas and the scale of Far Cry 1 and 2, take that and multiply it by ten," the game's Narrative Director, Jason VandenBerghe told Edge (via Beefjack).
"We want to take that even further," he continued. "We're focusing on taking that scale and making it dense, so that around every corner there's something to find or see.
"That's a key in open-world experiences. We ask ourselves: if there wasn't anyone to shoot in the game, could it still be fun?"
We'll have to wait for further previews to see whether VandenBerghe's claims are a bit of hyperbole or based on solid fact, but it's a tantalising prospect in the meantime.
