Ubisoft has revealed that Far Cry 3 is in its "preliminary stages" and that its location is likely to remain in Africa...
Far Cry 2's release is still a few months off but it seems Ubisoft is already talking about the next game in the series. Speaking at the Leipzig Games Convention, Far Cry 2's Narrative Designer Patrick Redding said that the next Far Cry game is currently in its "preliminary stages".
Redding told videogaming247 that it's likely Ubisoft Montreal will return to Africa for the third game: "For us Africa still has a huge amount of promise," he said. "There are still things we want to do with the African setting, and I think it's safe to say we'll continue to explore it.
"That said, we might find something new and compelling about the Antarctic setting that wants us to make the next game there, but honestly, we're still at the preliminary stages."
It seems that returning to Africa in the sequel might be a time saver for the Far Cry team. This makes us wonder whether Ubisoft will be looking to speed up the dev time of a possible sequel from the standard two year cycle, similar to how the publisher has previously executed Rainbow Six: Vegas and GRAW sequels.
"If we wanted to make the next game set in the... forest of South America, we could do it," Redding continued.
"But I think to save time, for us, one of the reasons we chose to use the African setting is because we felt that in order to retain the Far Cry brand value, of an exotic, dangerous environment, a place that maybe people haven't had a chance to see themselves, or have seen extensively in film, television and other games, we wanted to choose Africa.
"Let's face it, jungle islands are probably less exciting as they were four years ago," he added.

I have gone through this Far Cry 2 gameĀ 7 times now on sp, and am starting #8 today. Diff. weapons this time and diff. strategy. Still not too bored with it. But I am certainly wanting the next installment to come out soon. And maybe with a better editor. Or they could just give us some new mission add on's for FC2. At any rate, HURRY UP and get FC3 out to your fans.

Instead of Africa they should do something in Bosnia in 1993, that would be interesting
