Lionhead production update suggests that the linear experience of the first Fable may be changing for the sequel...

One of the criticisms of Lionhead's original Fable was that the environment was too linear, and didn't allow gamers much of an opportunity to explore beyond certain boundaries. It seems that the UK-based Microsoft Game Studios subsidiary may have taken such words into consideration during the conceptualisation stages of its sequel, which was announced at E3 2006 in May.

In its monthly development round-up, the company comments that, "Since we [Lionhead] are planning to allow players to leap off cliffs for example, we have to be extra cautious with the design, as every effort has to be made to make sure that players don't get stuck," suggesting that the Albion of Fable 2 may be a less linear affair that its predecessor.

Of course, this is yet to be confirmed by Lionhead Studios so we won't be able to see how open Fable 2 is until for a while yet.

We'll have more news shortly...
