FIFA 08 Reaches A Million News

According to EA, FIFA 08 is the first game to achieve one million sales in the UK so far this year. The title reached this benchmark in nine weeks, one week quicker than FIFA 07 achieved the same sales figure last year. These reports come from trade site MCV.

While FIFA 08 was released a month earlier than Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 2008, that hasn't stopped EA's UK Marketing Manager, Dan Holman, anointing FIFA 08 as the "only true next-gen football game on the market". EA also didn't pull any punches when it came to some of the post-development issues that PES 2008 has been experiencing:

"Konami by its own admission has faltered with its offering - shipping a game with 'rushed development' which is forcing it back to the drawing board," said Holman.

Famed PES Producer, Shingo 'Seabass' Takatsuka has openly admitted that this year's game was far from what the PES development team wanted, adding that they were keen to delay the title but couldn't due to certain factors.

Nevertheless, PES 2008 debuted on the Chart Track all-formats UK chart impressively, spending its first two weeks at number one. Nevertheless, whether it will have the same staying power in the charts as FIFA 08 (which has never fallen below the top 10) is yet to be seen. In last week's charts (for the week ending December 1st), FIFA 08 came in fourth with PES 2008 dropping to 10th.
