FIFA 07 Confirmed News
EA can't get enough of FIFA this year, despite the absence of next-gen versions...
By Chris LeytonPosted: 04/08/2006
EA today announced the fourth FIFA title in less than a year, with the September 22nd release of FIFA 07 on current-generation systems, handhelds and PC, though it seems Xbox 360 fans will have to wait until the launch of the Playstation3 at the very least before the title makes an appearance - perhaps EA are pulling off all the stops to ensure a FIFA title worthy of the format, particularly with Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 6 on the way!
"We are still innovating the gameplay on our current-gen game, and this year, the new online Interactive Leagues will bring together football fans from around the world and allow them to experience the glory and shame of their clubs, 24/7," said Joe Booth, producer of FIFA 07.
Once again it's the typical case of licenses galore, with the inclusion of the MLS and Mexican 1st Division joining 26 others from 20 different countries. The biggest innovation this year stems from the 'EA Sports Interactive Leagues' mode, which allows players to compete in an online league based around the F.A Premier League, Bundesliga, French League and Mexican 1st Division.
EA also promises new intelligent AI that ensures players make realistic decisions when it comes to passing and moving into space, but then again don't they always? A new game engine is also said to be behind the game, with a more sophisticated shooting system and the ability to put topspin or backspin on the ball from set-pieces.
An overhauled 'Manager' mode also makes an appearance, with player values and wages closer inline with the real world, and managerial decisions that have a greater effect on a player's performance. The Playstation2 and PSP versions boast compatibility, allowing players to start a managerial career at home on one and continue it on the move.
FIFA 07 is slated for release on the Xbox, Playstation2, GameCube, PC Nintendo DS, PSP and GBA on September 22nd; look out for more on the title soon.
