We grab a glimpse at the impressive shooter currently underway at Monolith...
Teased at in the days leading up to E3, Vivendi-Universal used the event in sunny Los Angeles to take the wraps of the latest title currently in development at Monolith Productions.
F.E.A.R (First Encounter Assault and Recon), is shaping up to be a worthy addition to the stellar list of first-person-shooters scheduled for release next year, claiming to offer intense close-quarters combat with a rich atmosphere and an engaging storyline.
The story begins with an unidentified paramilitary force infiltrating a multi-billion dollar aerospace compound. The government responds by sending in Special Forces, but looses contact when an eerie signal interrupts radio communications; however when the interference dies down, the government learns that the team has been literally torn apart.
As part of a classified strike team created to deal with threats that no one else can handle, your mission is to eliminate the intruders at any cost; determine the origin of the signal and contain the crisis before it spirals out of control.
Utilising the latest visual effects offered by DirectX9.0 along with crucial integration of the Havok 2.0 physics engine, you can easily tell from the accompanying screens and teaser trailer that F.E.A.R will offer something very special in the visual department when it comes together in 2005.
Monolith assures us that F.E.A.R will exhibit some of the most advanced AI to feature in a fps, whilst the promise of a wide variety of vehicles to commandeer should ensure this game offers the lot.
Naturally you can expect to get your hands on a wide range of weapons; however the game also incorporates a range of melee attacks such as jump kicks, punches, leg sweeps and many more.
Additional details revealed during the E3 presentation depicted various special powers granted by â??feelingâ? what has happened previously in certain areas, whilst we also noticed the appearance of macabre flashbacks to depict various visions and hint that F.E.A.R will offer a highly cinematic offering in 2005.
