3DS and NGP incarnations of Codemasters' Formula One racing game rumoured to be under development...
Twitter rumblings suggest that Codemasters’ F1 2011 will be released for 3DS and NGP in addition to home consoles.
A tweet from a Dutch journalist - which outed the handheld incarnations of the game - was given credence when it was retweeted by Codemasters Benelux.
"2011 F1 next appears in Q4 PC, PS2, Xbox 360 and also for 3DS NGP/PSP2"
Codemasters had previously announced that a sequel to the exemplary F1 2010 would be released this year; F1 2010 was originally released for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, and it was assumed that any new title would be limited to those platforms as well. Since the tweet surfaced, Codemasters has confirmed to VG247 that it will be announcing details of the new title prior to the Australian Grand Prix on March 24th.
“We’re locking everything into place right now and will drop the info bomb on Formula 1 in 2011 immediately prior to the season start in Melbourne, confirming the full format line up, release date and headline features.”
Although industry hype has suggested that the NGP has power which rivals current home consoles, no such claims can be made of the 3DS. However, both handhelds will feature online content stores, and Codemasters CEO Rod Cousens expressed frustration with the growing pre-owned market in an interview last year, intimating that future F1 games could potentially be released as predominately download-only titles.
