Legendary developer, Warren Spector says that he has no interest in doing a "Grand Theft Warren" game...

Despite the fact that some of Warren Spector's most celebrated games (such as Deus Ex) won acclaim for breaking the shackles of game design in terms of storytelling and player choice, the Junction Point Studios boss has nonetheless revealed that he won't make a sandbox game and is a big believer in linear game design.

"I've never done the 'Grand Theft Warren' game, you know?" Spector said at an Epic Mickey event in London earlier this week. "I don't make sandboxes; I'm a big believer in linear narrative. So every player's going to accomplish the same big mission goals, but it's how you get to that goal that's unique to you..."

"I'm kind of an old dog," he admitted. "I don't learn new tricks." Spector made these comments while demonstrating his latest opus, Epic Mickey, which is being developed for Disney Interactive exclusively on Nintendo's Wii.

When Spector was asked whether the game could come to the Xbox 360 and PS3 at some point, he replied, "That's a decision for other people in the Disney organisation to make.  Right now we're a Wii game and I'm happy to be able to focus on it. It's fun to be able to focus on gameplay and not have to worry about modern shader stuff and hyper-realism."

"That's got its place," Spector explained, "but you know what, if I never make another game that's trying to be the hyper-realistic, look-like-everything-else-in-the-world game, I'm ok with that - I don't need to do that anymore.  I'm really enjoying working on a platform where gameplay is it."
