A new novel set in the Elder Scrolls universe gives us a glimpse of the series after Oblivion...

Bethesda likes to keep quiet on new Elder Scrolls titles.  It's been three long years since Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion burst onto the scene and besides a good supply of expansion packs and DLC we don't know a thing about where the series is headed.

Amidst rumours that an Elder Scrolls MMO is on the cards, a listing for an Elder Scrolls novel has however provided the slightest hint.

The synopsis for Greg Keyes' The Elder Scrolls: Infernal City at Waterstones is described as:

"A novel that takes places forty-five years after the Oblivion Crisis, which is the story of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion game and the expansion pack Shivering Isles. It partly bridges the gap for the next game, which is set 200 years after the Oblivion crisis."

The description has since been removed from Waterstones and replaced with a more generic depiction, although a Google cached search can still find the revealing description.

Bethesda has always steered away from an Elder Scrolls MMO for that very reason - it's all about the adventure you desire to create for your character.

That said, they probably see the opportunity to bring such a vast universe to an MMO for financial reasons.

I wouldn't expect an Elder Scrolls MMO to mean the end of Elder Scrolls single-player - there's a completely different division developing the MMO, leaving Bethesda to focus on future Elder Scrolls titles and Fallout.

I myself have only played Elder Scrolls from Morrowind to the most recent Oblivion and I have been hooked since I picked up the controller for each one, and I need to say the general story seems to centre on just the one character, making you the centre of attention which is why I think converting it to an MMO would kill the spirit the story line and world bring. I mean the last thing I would want to do have to pay monthly to continue my addiction to the series. I mean as a simple CD for computer, PS3, or 360 it does seem the better choice as it is cost effective in the long run. but converting it to something you pay for I truly believe would kill it, and having to share the your secluded world with others makes it all the more miserable.
So please I beg you Bethesda for the love of all that is sacred do not turn this great series into yet another [#@!?]ised platform that WILL destroy all you have built since the first instalment which captured the hearts and minds of many fans. And I do hope I am not only one who feels like this. So please continue the platform you have it set on and I guarantee this is one fan who will buy it even if it gets bad reviews and the price it marked too high, I will not care for such things but I will care for the effort you put into such a masterpiece of story telling.
P.S. Oh! And I don't think muskets are bad of an idea but I would suggest a crossbow. Thank you.

well i think an mmo would ruin the franchise. the only thing i really hope for is that they do more with the horses, i would like to see jousting or horse based combat added in...also i would like it to be bigger (more along the lines of elder scrolls 2 daggerfall)
