Interplay confirms the development of Earthworm Jim 4 with the aid of Jim's creator...

Following the announcement that Earthworm Jim's "grooovy" MegaDrive titles would be released on the Wii's Virtual Console, we began a vow of silence that a new game starring the coolest videogame character ever would appear.

Seems the Virtual Console was only the beginning of Earthworm Jim's comeback!

Announcing the development of Earthworm Jim 4, Interplay has enlisted the assistance of the character's creator Doug TenNapel to "relaunch" the iconic character. Although we know little about the actual game, it seems Interplay and TenNapel have big plans for Earthworm Jim, announcing the simultaneous development of an animated series and feature-length film to complete the worm's return.

Although we're left guessing at such trivial details as format and developer, we can rule out a handheld or online title, until 2011 at least, following Atari's 5-year agreement with Shiny Entertainment.
