We all remember the fun of playing Destruction Derby 2 on the Psone, it was after all one of the first titles to be released way back in the mid/late 1990s, and now it seems as if Driven to Destruction may bring back all those memories of mayhem and jalopies desperately trying to avoid catastrophe.
The game has to two main modes: Action and Career. The Action mode is essentially the arcade part of the game, where you can take part in a multitude of events from Demolition Derbies to Jump Races and much more.
The Career mode speaks for itself, with players trying to work up the ranks of Destruction to become the ultimate jalopy racer. You have to buy and sell cars and start racing from low-key locations such as the local fast-food joint â?“ the game takes place in â??middle-of-nowhere-Americaâ? after all.
The game looks nice enough, but they arenâ??t worth shouting at the top of your lungs in amazement at, and the sound (especially the music) is suitably upbeat with patriotic â??God Bless Americaâ? rock and roll playing through the speakers. The only thing lacking in the game is the gameplay. Sure the Actions mini-events are fun to play, but the fact is, the game is rather slow paced compared to Burnout3 or Gran Turismo. Of course this is pretty much down to the fact that the cars in the game are jalopies and are therefore completely incapable of tremendous speed, but the game really suffers from this lack of thrust.
The cars are fine to control once you get used to them and you wont be rushed into making decisions quickly as you worm your way though the caravan of other cars.
The game seems to have quite a lot of scope, but the fact of the matter is, that you wonâ??t be playing it for very long â?“ I guess that after playing some of the above titles, we now expect our racing games to project us at speed, and not leave us dawdling along a dust track.

I would love a second game but i disagree with the free roam... That would be more like NFS... This is a derby game...

This game is a classic being a stock car fan wish a second version was produced. Just think how good this would be on with a large multi player on line. Lets hope for a second version on the ps3
