In conjunction with Dreamwave Productions, Capcom will be turning some of their franchises into comics in America this September. Dreamwave are new to us, not the biggest comic book fans in the world, but they did work on a new Transformers comic. To get that after starting up in only 1996, babies compared to Marvel and DC, they must be quite talented. They also have the license to do a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic based on a new TV show – again we've not seen either, but damn we liked those hero's in a half shell first time around! Megaman, Devil May Cry, DarkStalkers, Maximo and Rival Schools should all be rather interesting in comic book form.<br><br>Megaman #1 will be the first in the series, released this September, something to do with it being his 15th anniversary this year. The story will be written by Brain Augustyn (Crimson, Out There) and drawn by Michael Fong who is from Hong Kong, and according to Dreamwave is 'sensational', look at the screenshots of the characters to see if you agree with that appraisal! The comic will be set during the first games and follow Megaman through school. This seems to be an accessible comic, with lots of action but a bit more child-like and with humour. If you want real action then read on...<br><br>Devil May Cry will be a three issue series set to start in February 2004, and should be something special for those guys, and especially the ladies who like the oh-so-cool Mr Dante. The plot will be based around the first PlayStation2 game and written by Brad Mick who says that it will be a “fanboy's dream” and follow Dante as he uncovers “the truth about his past, present and future”. The artist will be Pat Lee, look at the image of Dante in front of the ruins. Oh my. The digital techniques used by this artist sure do make for some pretty pictures, no wonder Dreamwave say he's one of their top artists!<br><br>Before Devil May Cry gets released there will be some other comic books out this year.<br><br>DarkStalkers is the second comic in this Capcom series and is set to come out this October, the start of a four part series. Writer Beau Smith describes the comic best, “It's going to be action packed with some brutal fighting, but I also want to show the readers why these guys are fighting” - understandable as Capcom fighting games rarely explain the plots too well, or maybe its the plots that are at fault. Anyway we are looking forward to seeing “almost like a street gang battle for turf. Demons, monsters, and other spooky things want earth as their playground, and the good guys want to stop that from happening. Butts will be kicked, tails will be cut off, and horns will be locked”. Sounds good to us. Art will be done by Lou Kang – wasn't he a character in Mortal Kombat?! - and as you can see, Morrigan is looking rather good.<br><br>Maximo will also be released in October this year and again written by Beau Smith, who actually wrote the script for the second Maximo game. This will be a one off and cover things that aren't revealed in Ghosts to Glory or Army of Zin. We assume it will have some rather impressive sword battles but aside from that, ve know naaathing, well except that it will be drawn by Alan Wang.<br><br>The last comic to be released, at least in this initial batch of Capcom offerings, will be Rival Schools: United by Fate – Spring Break Spectacular, set for April 2004. We assume this will be more than drunken students messing around, breaking things, getting jiggy with each other in a very messy fashion, topping the evening off with the classic drunken spinning fall into the gutter and lying in a pool of your own vomit. Or was that just our spring breaks... <br><br>Judging from the one piece of art, by Rumil Sunga, it will be more along the lines of various sporting competitions, for instance volley ball, which as we know is a great excuse to show off the wonderful construction of the female body. Ahem. There will probably some fighting as well, as well as all the fun stuff associated with high schools. So far a writer has yet to be announced, so we have no-one to tell us what it will be about.<br><br>Well all of this is certainly entertaining, those of you in America who have at least a passing interest in these games may well be rather excited about them all. We just hope that they make it out to Europe as we are sure there are some people who would be interested in these books.<br><br>We assume that if these do well then there may well be more. Street Fighter, Resident Evil comics anyone?
