Eidos Montreal: Original Deus Ex Was 'Kind Of Slow' News

Deus Ex 3 Lead Designer sticks his neck out and criticises the cult Ion Storm title...

The cult status of Deus Ex continues to resonate beneath the surface of videogaming, more than eight years after the FPS/RPG hybrid from Ion Storm landed on the PC.  Which is why Deus Ex 3 Lead Designer, Jean-Francois Dugas may have to brace himself for a tirade of comments from fans after he described Ion Storm's original instalment as 'kind of slow' in a new interview.

Citing a lack of exciting moments in Deus Ex, Dugas has also attempted to re-assure the detractors of Deus Ex sequel, Invisible War, and spoken about Deus Ex 3's potential performance on the consoles: “At this point we don’t know exactly which platforms we’re going to be out on. The PC, we’ll be there for sure. But for us, console-isation isn’t about dumbing down features. If we’re to go console we will want to keep the complexity alive. We want the menu interface and controller to feel simple without risking any of their potential".

Dugas' comments have been released ahead of a full interview in the upcoming issue of Edge, in which he describes how the debut title from Eidos Montreal will stand out from the legacy of its predecessors.

So how do you Deus Ex hardcore feel about Dugas' comments?

This guy is really asking for it...  Admitedly he's probably right, Deus Ex did lack big scripted moments, but that's because it was all about evolving your character.

He's also right about the consolisation of Invisible War - although I think that got some harsh criticism.

they have to really push the lines on this one, i love the first game as many did. if they make a strong story and amazing gfx (HL2) with full upgrades this game will rock

I actually hope they put some work into it and make it for the PC, instead of a crappy portal from consoles. IW sucked because of the excessive load screens.
