THQ To Destroy All Humans Twice Over News
Two new extraterrestrial titles heading to next-gen consoles and Wii; Pandemic moves away from the B-movie franchise...
By Jon WilcoxPosted: 10/07/2007
With his Jack Nicholson-esque voice and psychotic obsession of eradicating mankind, Destroy All Humans! protagonist Cryptosporidium has quickly become of the more charismatic videogame characters to emerge in the last couple of years. The grey alien's status has of course been helped by the popularity of the franchise, so today's news from THQ that two more Destroy All Humans! instalments will be heading our way next year, won't come as too much of a surprise to fans.
In production at Locomotive Games for Wii, PlayStation2, and PSP, Destroy All Humans! Big Willy Unleashed takes Crypto to the 1970s, where the grey alien is set to wreck havoc on across the world in his UFO and his mech, the dubiously named Big Willy...The publisher is of course promising that the Wii edition of the game will also take advantage of the Wii-remote's motion controls.
Marking the franchise's debut on the next-generation systems, Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon is currently being developed by internal THQ outfit, Sandblast Games, and sees Crypto continue his 1970s adventures on Earth. Following on from the climax of Destroy All Humans! Big Willy Unleashed, Path of the Furon sees the introduction of a new enemy that threatens the very existence of the Furon species - leaving Crypto with no choice but to learn new skills from an alien Kung Fu master.
"The Destroy All Humans! franchise has consistently delivered a unique combination of fun and original gameplay delivering irreverent humor and over the top destruction that has garnered worldwide critical acclaim and commercial success," said Bob Aniello, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, THQ. "The simultaneous release of two all-new Destroy All Humans! titles means gamers can expect different experiences that utilize the unique technology of the leading gaming platforms."
"Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon will take advantage of the powerful Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION3 computer entertainment system, offering high-definition graphics, expanded open-world gameplay and a humorous story following Crypto on his journey of enlightenment and destruction," said Jack Sorenson, Executive Vice President of Worldwide Studios, THQ. "The Wii's capabilities served as a springboard in designing Destroy All Humans! Big Willy Unleashed, and the game will take full advantage of the Wii Remote, allowing gamers to cause massive destruction on foot, in Crypto's UFO or at the controls of the Big Willy mech."
Besides the return of less-than-subtle innuendo and 'funky' gameplay trademarks of the series, THQ's confirmation that original Destroy All Humans! studio Pandemic isn't driving the development of either title will surely unnerve fans of the Furon franchise. We'll just to wait and see what Crypto has in store for gamers when he crash lands onto consoles in early 2008.

It's no big loss to Sony, if it's anything like the previous games it will be average at best.
