Cult hit to launch via Xbox Live's Games On Demand service on July 5th...

Few games embody the term cult hit on this generation of consoles better than Access Games' Deadly Premonition. The title launched last year to mixed reviews and, when we say mixed reviews, we don't just mean a couple of 8s and a few 5s - we mean scores ranging all the way from 10 down to 2.

It's suffered at retail to, failing to even break into the top 40 chart upon its release in the UK last October. Copies of the game have been hard to come by in the shops, making it a great fit for Xbox Live's Games On Demand service.

Deadly Premonition's publisher in Europe, Rising Star Games has announced a July 5th release date via Games On Demand, although there's no info on a price for the game at this stage. Given that it was originally a budget title here in the UK, presumably the price can't creep far beyond £20 on Xbox Live.

As an open-world survival horror game, the Japanese-developed Deadly Premonition certainly doesn't lack any innovation or originality, particularly when you consider the void of fresh ideas in the survival horror genre on current-gen machines.

"Deadly Premonition is a quirky and unique title we are proud to have published," said Martin Defries, Managing Director, Rising Star Games. "We knew there was an audience for the title and we delivered them the game they wanted. Now Deadly Premonition is on Games on Demand it will give even more people a chance to marvel at this completely individual title and decide for themselves what they think of the most controversial title of 2010."
