EA's Glen Schofield reveals the first snippets of Dead Space: Extraction info at D.I.C.E. Summit...

The Executive Producer on EA's Dead Space series, Glen Schofield, has revealed the first raft of information about the series' spin-off for Wii, Dead Space: Extraction.

It seems that Dead Space: Extraction will be a prequel to last year's Dead Space, with the story starting two weeks before Isaac Clarke boards the Ishimura. As a result, Clarke will not feature in the game and players will take on the role of two new characters instead.

Schofield told Gametrailers at the D.I.C.E. Summit that there will be a heroine in the game that players will be trying to protect and save. Now, we would argue that this wouldn't make her much of a heroine, but whatever.

The game starts off on the planet that the Ishimura was cracking before the beastie necromancers took hold, and the ship is actually inhabited by personnel at the beginning of the game, allowing players to see what happened on the Ishimura before the events of Dead Space.

As far as weapons are concerned, Schofield confirmed the return of the flamethrower and also mentioned a couple of pistols, the latter of which is a bit of a no-brainer.

When asked whether a sequel is in the works of the original Dead Space, Schofield said, "Let's hope so . . . we have enough story to tell".

EA has previously touted a Dead Space sequel in its various financial reports, but an official announcement remains illusive.
