The head of Research and Development and Online Business at Capcom states his interest in a sequel...

The head of R&D and Online Business at Capcom has stated that he's interested in a sequel to the successful Xbox 360 title Dead Rising. Keiji Inafune revealed his views on Capcom's successful zombie shooter to Kotaku at the Tokyo Game Show.

While acknowledging that there won't be a Dead Rising 2 announcement next year, as the original team behind Dead Rising has split up and are now engaged on other titles, he did nevertheless state his interest in a possible sequel, saying: "I do really want to do Dead Rising 2. It's just still hard to get games for the Western market approved."

Inafune-san went on to point out how difficult it is to get titles produced for the Western market. However, given that Capcom have attacked the West with renewed vigour in recent times - producing new and successful IP such as Dead Rising and Lost Planet - it seems a little strange not to build on these successes.

Having said that, it's unlike Capcom not to make a sequel for a successful game, what with their impressive number of Mega Man and Street Fighter sequels/spin-offs. Perhaps it will just be a new team working on a possible Dead Rising 2 rather than the original, a practice that's very common within Capcom.

Yeah, all we know is that it's scheduled for an early 2010 release. If Capcom's release strategy for its triple A games is anything like last year with SFIV and Resi 5, then Lost Planet 2 and Dead Rising 2 will arrive around spring time.
