Dead Rising 2 Can Render 6,000 On-Screen Zombies News

Speaking at GDC last week, the developers behind Dead Rising 2 gave a presentation on the graphical improvements for the sequel, revealing that they expect the title to push the boundaries of on-screen character rendering in a game.

"Dead Rising 2 deals with the rendering of the greatest number of characters ever seen in a video game," said Izmeth Siddeek, Dead Rising 2's Character Art Lead at developer Blue Castle Games. "Everything else needed to be subordinated to this requirement."

It seems Blue Castle will be able to achieve this by applying Mental Mill software, reports MTV's Multiplayer blog. Mental Mill's Product Manager, Laura Scholl, stated that Blue Castle Games is aiming to achieve as many as 6,000 on-screen zombies using the technology. 

This Mental Mill tech reportedly provides the added bonus of being able to achieve this huge number of renders without sacrificing visual quality, while also utilising 800 different clothing textures to ensure that character models don't become repetitive. If the claims are accurate, then Valve's Left 4 Dead can eat its heart out (literally and figuratively).
