Digital Extremes' next-gen project gets a publisher ahead of an Autumn 2007 release...

Dark Sector

It may seem a long way off, but Digital Extremes has managed to secure a publisher for its next-generation third person shooter, Dark Sector, which is scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2007. Details of the game have been scarce (in fact that last we heard of them was in April 2004), but work on the game, which is being developed for 'next-gen consoles' and PC seems to be going strong. Renowned for their Unreal franchises with Epic Games, Digital Extremes' last effort was the FPS Pariah on Xbox earlier this year.

Taking control of main character Hayden Tenno, who has the somewhat unusual ability of changing into 'dramatically different combat forms', Dark Sector takes place in the near future where biological weapons are an everyday nightmare.

"Our focus at D3Publisher continues to be acquiring good, mass-market appeal licensed properties, and the acquisition of IP from selected developers designed for next generation machines," stated Yoji Takenaka, Executive Vice President and COO for D3PA. "The opportunity to work with the world renowned design team that James Schmalz has assembled at Digital Extremes is just too good to pass up. They have an outstanding reputation for gorgeous graphics, polished gameplay and high quality production values. We are very proud to be working with them on Dark Sector."

"We are very fortunate based on our previous successes to be in a position of being selective with our business partners," commented James Schmalz, Digital Extremes Founder. "D3Publisher impressed us with their commitment to publishing high quality next-generation games that exceed gamers' expectations, which we certainly expect to do with Dark Sector. We consider this game to be the culmination of the experience we have garnered over the years in creating cutting-edge entertainment and we are pleased to be working with them to bring Dark Sector to gamers around the world."

We'll have further coverage of Dark Sector in future months...

This game was a little on the easy side, but I found it fun, although it took a total of about 6 hours to beat, and not much for plot, but I liked it

If you are looking for a game which boasts no expectation of skill and just fancy slicing limbs from the bodies of the bad guys, or just shooting your way through level after level then this game is for you. The story line is a little on the thin side, but aside from that it deserves its average score of 7.
