Cevat Yerli casts doubt on a Crysis 2 demo and suggests the future lies away from free demos...

Cevat Yerli Crytek CEO has waded into the issue of premium demos, claiming that he's not sure about a Crysis 2 demo and believes EA's strategy for premium demos is the way forward.

EA had previously ruffled gamers' feathers by suggesting the day of the free demo could be over and possibly putting in place plans to release "premium demos" for $10-15 (£6-9).

A demo isn't a luxury, it's advertisement. The film industry despite your claims also has this "luxury", it's called a preview in the movie industry....

In an interview with Develop, Yerli claims demos are "a luxury" and are "prohibitively expensive" for developers to create, before predicting "we'll see less and less of them in the future"

“A free demo is a luxury we have in the game industry that we don’t have in other industries such as film," Yerli told Develop.  "Because we’ve had this free luxury for so long, now there are plans to change this people are complaining about it. The reality is that we might not see any free game demos in the long term.”

“I think EA’s strategy is interesting, overall. The thing is, every time we see a publisher doing something to improve the industry, making things more commercially viable and actually increasing the market, people instantly think this is only some money-hungry ploy.”

Yerli claimed that the widespread anger greeted to EA's plans was likely a result of miscommunication.

“The problem with any new strategy like this is it initially may appear as a blood-hungry, money-grabbing strategy," he claimed. "But I think there is a genuine interest here to give gamers something more than a small demo released for free.

“I think the whole issue needs to be explained in a better way, because there is good thinking behind EA’s plan. I understand why people are thinking that all EA wants to do is maximise profits out of the audience, but really, what it’s really trying to do is get investment back but while being as fair to the gamer as much as it can. Ultimately, it will be a better deal for the gamer."

What do you think?  Do you want a demo of Crysis 2 to make up your mind; are you happy to pay up to nine quid for a more sizable sample of the action?  As always let us know in the comments below.

Even the difference between graphics on PC and consoles appears to be fairly marginal. PC gamers have been up in arms about a perceived drop in standards on the PC platform as the series made the transition to multi-platform development.

I want to get this for the ps3, is there a difference other than graphics from the console version?

lol post 106 what official website did you goto as both EA and Crytek both have it listed as a demo, lol you need to get you facts straight when you comment next time though if i were you i wouldnt as youve already proved to be 100% wrong, and arguing like a child really isnt a good idea, and TVG got it wrong maybe they should have also looked on the official Crytek website instead of putting up incorrect information.

lol, it's hardly me crying is it?  i don't know about you, but i find it quite annoying when trying to find something out on the internet and coming accross loads of drivel by people who haven't got a clue rather than just the answer i'm looking for.

so i like to point out when there's a mistake made.  such as here, the xbox currently has a crysis 2 open beta in progress, not a demo for crysis 2.  again, you only have to read the official crysis website to see this, don't take anyones word for anything other than official websites, as they're the people who are making the game.

enough anyway, i wont keep on 'crying', i think anyone who comes accross these comments will use their brain, check out the official crysis website and discover it's a beta, not a demo, currently on xbox.  it should put them at ease that the bugs / rubbish graphics could be better on release as improvements are always made after a beta.

it's not supposedly a beta.  it IS a beta, again, check out the official crysis website, don't just take my or TVGs word for it.

and i doubt very much the ps3 version will look any better, no.  this has nothing to do with what format the game is on, i don't know why you keep bringing it up (trolling i guess).

it's about crysis2 being worse than its predecesor that is years old.
