X06: Eidos Confirms Crossfire News

Innovative two player co-op FPS from the creators of the Conflict series coming to 360/PC first...

Conflict: Denied Ops

Joining IO Interactive's Kane & Lynch, Eidos has recently lifted the lid on their latest next-generation title set to debut first on the Xbox 360 and PC.

In development at Pivotal Games, known for the Conflict series, Crossfire is billed as an innovative two player co-op first-person-shooter. Retaining a military theme, Crossfire draws inspiration from the Special Activities Division, a division of the CIA, whose members must bear no identity; no objects, papers or clothing that could associate them in any way with their employees.

With the freedom to switch between either operative at any stage, to lay down suppressing cover fire, explore different paths and set up ambushes, Crossfire is based around an intuitive command system that encourages the player to focus squarely on the action. Fully destructible environments and explosive special effects complete the package, with a storyline set within politically unstable locations across South America, Africa and Siberia.

"Being able to develop a true next generation title is always both exciting and challenging," said Darren Barnett, Development Director, Eidos. "We are able to utilise the power of Xbox 360 in so many different areas, such as making use of true next-gen lighting techniques, designing fully destructible environments and really exploiting the game's concepts into new multiplayer areas with the Xbox Live online game service. CROSSFIRE will offer a new approach to the next-gen FPS genre."

Crossfire is scheduled for release in 2007; expect further details on the title shortly...
