THQ set to bring Robert E. Howard's Barbarian to the next-generation in 2008...

Just weeks after Nihilistic Software confirmed the development of a next-generation title based on Robert E. Howard's iconic Conan the Barbarian character, THQ has today confirmed that they'd be bringing the game to Xbox 360 and PlayStation3 during 2008.

Following the adventures of the Barbarian come Destroyer, the Conan title will follow the Cimmerian as he fights against a new power than threatens the land of Hyboria, and will implement what THQ describes as a "deep and gratifying combat system."

"The strength and diversity of the Conan brand lends itself extremely well to the interactive format," said Jack Sorensen, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Studios, THQ. "Through intense combat, familiar environments and next generation visuals, we believe Conan fans and action adventure enthusiasts alike are certain to embrace this future addition to the Conan universe."

"The Conan brand has captured the hearts of dedicated fans for 75 years," said Fredrik Malmberg, President and CEO, Paradox Entertainment. "We have enjoyed tremendous success with our brand extensions and look forward to working with THQ to bring this upcoming chapter of Conan's ambitious journey to a video game format."

Um, how'd you get that from the article? They said nothing about it being based on the movie. It's based on the Robert E. Howard source material. Have you seen the flick? I'm kinda sure there's no Kraken involved... OR boats. Like the one in that full-page spread...

Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption, not Bloodlines. Bloodlines was done by Troika Games.
