I think it's a sign of respect from Codemasters to a professional sportsman that they worked very closely with. They give posthumous awards - so think of it like that.
Perhaps the greatest respect they can offer the late Colin McRae is to do a 180 from last year's version and focus on making DiRT 2 a game for the rally fans once again instead of appealing to the yanks.

how can they do another colin McRae dirt game when hes dead (i dont mean no disrespect to him or his family) but it just doesnt make any sense he put his knowlage into the last game so how can they improve it unless there using other rally drivers and making a tribute game to colin mcrae.
