Codies confirms the use of a new proprietary engine in the development of Colin McRae: DIRT...

Following a hiatus in 2006, Colin McRae is set to make his next-generation debut in 2007 with DIRT; as the countdown to race day continues, Codemasters has today unveiled further details about the new chapter of rallying.

First up comes news that DIRT is being developed from the ground up, and being built with Codies' proprietary Neon engine. Currently in development for the last eighteen months, DIRT will be featuring a high-level of destructible objects from crumpling metal, shattering glass, and splintering trees. Air physics is also being implemented into the game, so that everything can be affect by the wind, as well as introducing slip-streaming effects.

Forty different rally cars will make an appearance in DIRT, across a dozen classes from 4WD, 2WD and Rear-Wheel drive, including McRae's R4 prototype and the almost iconic Suberu Impreza.

Speaking about the new engine, Gavin Cheshire, Vice President of Codemasters Studios said, "Neon delivers an engine that provides us with so much more scope and possibilities than an update of existing tech would have ever allowed. The most obvious result is in the visual detail and physics that produce incredible particle effects. Neon makes it possible to go into seemingly minute detail but will create the most realistic and involving environments in the racing genre."

Currently in development for Xbox 360, PlayStation3, and PC, we'll have more on Colin McRae: DIRT in the future...

to the guy who prefer rsc2 , the handling is the same, what are you on? and the graphics are amazing ,they get better the further you get through the game, some gamers say get the steering wheel and it changes the feel totally making it more realistic but tbh i think its the best racing game for 360 by a mile

I have no experience of previous Colin Mcrae Games but I loved Rallisport challenge 2... and I love this!!! It looks incredible and once you get used to the handling it feels and plays great too. The horrible American 'Way to go dude!!!' voiceovers after every race may try your patience though.

Looks great but cars feel strangely weighted, no doubt intended to make it easier to drive and more accessible to kids but as a result loses a lot of its character. Rent before you jump onto the hype wagon. I prefer the feel of Rallisport2 and will wait on Rallisport3. Hope they don't make that "more accessable" too 8.5/10

You are wise and fools, this game will only have very small diffences from xbox 360 to ps3. It dosen't matter what system you pick becasue you pick the right one for you.
