Codemasters reveals that the co-creator of Criterion's Black is working on a an "original action FPS" at the publisher's Guildford studio...

Stuart Black, the eponymous Co-creator of Criterion's 2006 FPS Black, is working on an "original action FPS" at Codemasters' Guildford studio. According to an announcement from the publisher, this new intellectual property is set to lead on console platforms and has already been in full production for 12 months.

Codemasters Studios (situated on the outskirts of London) developed last year's Colin McRae: DiRT 2 and Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, both of which went on to sell over a million units each. Since it opened in 2007, the studio has been prototyping several concepts over the past 18 months, one of which is this new FPS.

The game will utilise Codies' EGO tech; a cross-platform, proprietary game engine that the publisher has used to develop its major franchises over the past couple of years. This original FPS, however, will be the first new IP to be developed with the engine.

Codemasters has shored up the game's 80-strong development team by assigning Andrew Wilson to the position of Senior Producer (who previously worked on Split/Second at Blackrock) and Tom Gillo to the Executive Producer role (previously of Sony's London Studio).

So Stuart Black cites Lada GaGa's 2009 Glastonbury appearance as "revelatory" - isn't that the one where all the hermaphrodite rumours stemmed from?  Maybe we'll have a Crying Game surprise in Bodycount?!?
