Wii Fit makes it five consecutive weeks at the top; can anything stop people buying Balance Boards...

Typically a Hollywood blockbuster tie-in released during the relatively dry spring period could easily count on chart success, but it seems not even Wolverine can carve his way through the indomitable accomplishments of Wii Fit - seriously is there a single UK household that doesn't own a Wii Balance Board by now?

Outselling X-Men Origins: Wolverine by a ratio of 1.7:1 is some indicator of just how successful Wii Fit is; the "game" has been out for over a year now!

Format sales of X-Men Origins: Wolverine accounted for 51% on Xbox 360 and 39% on PlayStation3, meaning that only 10% of the game's sales occurred on the remaining formats - PC, PS2, Wii, DS, and PSP.  It's only the combined might of Xbox 360 and PS3 sales that secured its position in the charts.  Taking a look at the sales by an individual formats basis reveals that Wii Fit, Wii Play, Mario Kart Wii and Professor Layton and the Curious Village all managed to outsell the Xbox 360 and PlayStation3 versions of the movie tie-in.

With the football season coming to an exciting conclusion (for some fans at least), FIFA 09 enjoys a 28% increase in week-on-week sales to secure the No.3 spot.  If it continues selling like this, it could hold its own until FIFA 10 makes an appearance.

Increased hardware sales of Wii account for Wii Play (No.4) and Mario Kart Wii (No. 6), which saw a 47% and 15% increase in weekly sales respectively.  Despite a 2% reduction in weekly sales, Capcom's Resident Evil 5 manages to hold its own at No.5.

Both The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Athena and The Godfather II drop sharply to No.7 and No.8, while Professor Layton and the Curious Village stands at No.9 (despite being No.4 in the individual format charts) and Call of Duty: World at War rounds off the Top 10 at No.10.

Without any major releases for the next few weeks, TVG expects next week's charts to remain largely the same, with Wii Fit celebrating yet another week on top - who's willing to bet against it?

Sales By Format

Despite a handful of Wii titles selling very strongly, the number of Wii titles in the Top 40 by individual formats reveal that the popular console is behind the Xbox 360 and PlayStation3 in terms of number of individual SKUs charting.

Reinforcing the notion that the only games that sell on Wii are those created by Nintendo, the individual sales chart reveals that subsequent Wii chart positions are limited to My Fitness Coach and Carnival: Funfair Games.
