It's now four consecutive weeks atop the UK Charts for Wii Fit and 13 weeks in total...

With the London Marathon taking place over the weekend we'd have thought that the attention of UK fitness fanatics would've been elsewhere, but that didn't stop them putting Wii Fit atop the UK Charts once again this week.

Now tallying an impressive 13 weeks (nine so far this year) on top of the charts since its release a year ago, not to mention its fourth week in succession, Wii Fit is gradually reeling in the Chart Track record of 18 weeks at No.1 in the UK, which is currently held by 2001's Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.

The balance board aided phenomenon is quickly becoming the UK's default No.1 game as long as there aren't any particularly significant new releases to challenge it. Speaking of which, the biggest challenge to Wii Fit's superiority this week came from The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, which was the highest new entry at No.2.

This replaced Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games in the top ten, which dropped from No.4 to No.11. Other than that, the top ten was filled with the same games as last week. In fact, the No.5 to No.10 positions were held by the following non-movers (in order of position): Resident Evil 5, Professor Layton, Mario Kart Wii, Wii Play, Call of Duty: World at War, and Carnival: Funfair Games.

EA's The Godfather II and FIFA 09 both suffered one place drops to No.3 and No.4 respectively, rounding off a fairly stagnant top ten that's been only slightly displaced by The Chronicles of Riddick's arrival.

Sales By Format

Top 40 (Format Frequency)

Microsoft's Xbox 360 looks like the cat that got the cream this week, coming away with 15 titles on Chart Track's top 40 by individual formats. That's an increase of four titles from last week, which has badly bruised the Wii's position on the chart as the console accounted for only seven titles this week (down from 10 last week). While PS3 and PC figures remained the same as last week, the DS experienced a one title drop but was still the closest platform to the Xbox 360.

When this week's sales by format results are compared to those over the last eight weeks, the Xbox 360's continued dominance is clear to see. Despite a convergence of the four major platforms towards the beginning of this month, the Xbox 360 has since taken a commanding lead over the now consistent PS3 and DS consoles, while Nintendo's Wii continues to falter.
