Chart Attack: Easter Eggs Bolster Wii Fit Feature
Nintendo's fitness fuelled craze becomes the Japanese publisher's longest serving UK No.1...
By Chris LeytonPosted: 14/04/2009
Perhaps it's the fact that plenty of people have probably eaten too many chocolate eggs over the Easter hols, or perhaps the sheer weight of Louise Redknapp spreading its virtues across the TV, but there's little denying Wii Fit's stamina at the top of the UK All Format chart.
In doing so, Wii Fit becomes Nintendo's longest serving All Format No.1, spending 11 weeks at the top (not consecutively) and surpassing the mighty Pokemon Yellow in the process.
Such is the demand for Wii Fit it seems that it managed to fend off the only genuine challenger in the shape of EA Games' The Godfather II, which charted at No.2 in its debut week.
Elsewhere, another stalwart of the UK charts, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, climbed to No.3 from last week's No.9. As a result, Capcom's Resident Evil 5 shows signs of slippage dropping to No.4.
FIFA 09 and Call of Duty: World at War both see drops to No.5 and No.6 respectively, while Professor Layton and the Curious Village manages to maintain its intrigue, sticking at No.7.
Further Wii triumphs come in the shape of Wii Play and Mario Kart Wii both re-entering the All Format Top 10 at No.8 and No.9, while Street Fighter IV rounds off the Top 10 at No.10.
From last week's releases only The Godfather II made an impact, highlighting the fact that there's not particularly too many choices at the time being.
It's a quiet week again for new releases, so we don't expect too much trouble for Wii Fit to hold its own at the top once again next week.
Sales By Format
The difference between the top formats and the flagging formats was again highlighted by this week's figures, showcasing the fact that neither the PC, PS2, nor PSP managed to offer a single title in the Top 40 (by unit).
The 360 shows continued strength at a time when both the PS3 and Wii appear to be slipping slightly; perhaps it's just the fact that there's nothing particularly new available at the moment.
