Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar continue to battle the threat of Wii-owning fitness fanatics...
Capcom's Resident Evil 5 makes it three weeks at the top of the UK All Format Top 40, as it continues to fend off the sustained challenge of Nintendo's Wii Fit. Sales of Wii Fit managed to outsell Resident Evil 5, but the combined sales of Capcom's title on the Xbox 360 and PS3 managed to overcome the resilience of Nintendo's popular pastime. The achievement equals Resident Evil 3 as the longest serving title in the series to remain at No.1.
Although there's little change at the top a resurgent Street Fighter IV carries on its charge back into the charts like a devastating dragon punch, rising from last week's No.7 to No.3. As a result, Professor Layton and the Curious Village and WWE Legends of Wrestlemania both drop a place to No.4 and No.5 respectively.
Stalwarts of the 2009 charts, both FIFA 09 and Call of Duty: World at War romped back up the charts at No.6 and No.7. GTA's DS debut however shows signs of perhaps not matching the typical blockbuster success of the series, dropping from No.6 to No.8. The interest in Modern Warfare 2 appears to have ignited sales of the original, jumping back into the Top 10 for the first time since June 2008 to No.9. Finally Tom Clancy's HAWX drops closer to falling out of the Top 10 at No.10.
From last week's releases Midway/Ubisoft's Wheelman achieves a fairly respectable No.11. Buoyed by the release of the Wii version Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 re-enters the Top 40 at No.22, while the release of Command & Conquer Red Alert 3: The Ultimate Edition nestles in at No.25.
Those that missed out on the Top 40 include the return of Buzz in Buzz! Brain of the UK (No.29 in PS3 Top 30), Eidos' hardcore German RPG Drakensang (No.15 in PC Top 20), and EA's card based RTS Battleforge (No.20 in PC Top 20). Spare a thought for Nippon-Ichi Software/Square-Enix' Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure which didn't even chart on the DS Top 40.
Sales By Format
A day to celebrate, the PSP has its first title making the UK Top 40 since TVG's Chart Track began. Ok, so not exactly historic but a pretty memorable occasion nonetheless.
Elsewhere the number of titles by format in the Top 40 slips for both Wii and DS, with the number of 360 and PS3 titles in the charts both picking up on the slack and showing significant increases.
