A "new beginning" for Championship Manager with an overhauled game engine and 3D match engine...

Spurred by what they themselves describe as "four years of mid-table mediocrity", Beautiful Game Studios and Eidos today announced an overhauled return for the game we once passionately called Champ Man.

Confirming an April 2009 release for Championship Manager 2009, Beautiful Game Studios assures us that the latest title features a vast array of new features, built upon a completely rewritten game engine.

"We have a whole host of new features which we're incredibly proud of," said Roy Meredith, General Manager of Championship Manager. "This is a new beginning for the Championship Manager franchise and we are 100% focused on getting it right, that's why we have had a longer development time than any previous version of the game."

Following Sports Interactive's lead, Championship Manager 2009 will incorporate a 3D match engine for the first time in the series, which features over 500 motion-captured animations per player.

"This is our opportunity to give consumers a reason to believe in Championship Manager once again," continued Meredith. "After 4 years of mid-table mediocrity, we're making great strides to become genuine title contenders. We want everyone to test this out by trying the demo which is out in March. Try the demo and make up your own minds."

There certainly was little between Champ Man and FM last season. Champ Man had the innovative new features, while FM was still the one to beat in terms of gameplay. Nonetheless, Champ Man 2010's gameplay still took huge strides forward from Champ Man '08.

Waste of time. Disc won't read and going by the other issues listed below, this game seems riddled with problems. It's in the bin where it belongs.

Note to developer: If you're going to take on the FM series, begin with a game that actually works. I won't be buying any of your products ever again.
