Industry rumblings suggest new Call Of Duty will ditch realism for space marines...
With Call Of Duty: Black Ops fresh on the shelves this week, rumours are already circulating about the future direction of the series, with calls from some quarters suggesting that the realistic conceit of the franchise may be eschewed in favour of a more futuristic aesthetic.
Sledgehammer Games are known to be working on a new installment in the FPS saga, and Gamasutra has cited ‘industry sources’ that suggest the new game “will be set in the future and feature, for lack of a better term, space marines”.
The Activision owned studio was founded in late 2009 by ex-employees from EA studio Visceral Games, and includes many key creatives from the original Dead Space team, including the Creative Director, Environmental Art Lead, and former GM. The studio is still hiring for the new Call Of Duty project, and no firm details have officially been released, but clearly this is a team with an impressive pedigree for producing immersive space combat experiences.
