Patch 1.06 released shortly after Gamers' Voice reports Activision UK to the Office of Fair Trading...
The PS3 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops has been patched following a complaint by a consumer rights group. Pressure group Gamers’ Voice reported Activision UK to the Office of Fair Trading over the state of the PC and PS3 multiplayer, which it described as “plagued by problems”.
Gamers’ Voice has written an open letter to the OFT citing the following issues with Black Ops:
* Sudden disconnections from online multiplayer game sessions
* Inability to join servers that play host to multiplayer game sessions
* Freezing of PlayStation 3 console, forcing the user to reset it
* Main menu freezing as the game is started on the PC version
Referring to the Sales of Good Act, Gamers’ Voice argues that the game has failed to function as advertised.
“This complaint is on the basis that Activision UK Ltd are in breach of the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended) which states that when a consumer buys goods they must be: as described; of a satisfactory quality; and fit for any purpose made known at the time of sale to the seller.”
“It is clear that Call of Duty: Black Ops for the PlayStation 3 and PC is not ‘as described’; of a satisfactory quality or fit for purpose i.e. to entertain, which was stressed at the time of its release.”
Five hours after the letter was published on the Gamers’ Voice website, Treyarch released Patch 1.06 for PS3 and made the following statement on the Call of Duty Forums:
“Treyarch is dedicated to ensuring the best gaming experience for the fans, and we’ve been actively working with you to continue to improve the game based on your feedback. As always, keep the feedback coming through the community forums.”
Treyarch states that the patch fixes the freezing problem associated with larger games, and improves the reliability of player connections to one another.
