Activision Sues Over Brutal Legend News

Activision alleges that a valid contract is still in place and has invested over $15m in the title...

Brutal Legend

Activision appears to enjoy throwing its corporate weight around the courtrooms as of late.  Following the DJ Hero vs Scratch: The Ultimate DJ tussle, The Associated Press is reporting that the publishing giant has filed a lawsuit against Double Fine Productions, claiming that they transferred publishing rights to EA despite a valid contract still being in place.

Following the notorious Activision 'purge' of former Vivendi/Sierra titles it had been widely believed that Double Fine's Brutal Legend was one of the titles cast aside by Activision; titles that couldn't be "exploited every year across every platform," according to the words of the publisher's CEO Bobby Kotick during a financial call.

However, unlike titles such as Ghostbusters, The Chronicles of Riddick, and the Bourne franchise, which were quickly snapped up after Activision's decision, Double Fine Production's Brutal Legend appeared to be in uncertain territory until EA confirmed publishing rights as part of its EA Partners program late last year.
