The Hundred Years War and the battlefields of medieval Europe provide the focus for Koei's new action franchise...

Having spent several iterations of Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors giving us a loose understanding of Japanese and Chinese history, Koei is turning its attention to Europe, with the development of Bladestorm: The Hundred Years War.

Currently in production for PlayStation3, Bladestorm is set during the medieval battles of The Hundred Years War between England and France, with key historical figures such as Joan of Arc and Prince Edward (the Black Prince) making their respective appearances.

The game will be featuring a "Free Battle" system, which will allow players to ally their troops will either England or France on a battle-by-battle basis; something that Koei claims will open up the experience. Contemporary units including Spearmen, Pikemen, and Archers, will all be under the player's command as they try to capture the many strongholds of their enemy.

Hopefully Bladestorm will turn to be more than just "Dynasty Warriors in France", though with the launch of PlayStation3 in Europe several months away, we'll have to wait and see.

We'll have more news shortly...

Exclusivity in third-party titles is certainly a rarity in the next-gen...Capcom so far is holding out with Devil May Cry 4, and Square Enix with FFXIII...

''I've always been a playstation (1 and 2) fan but I think Sony are relying too much on gamer loyalty for the PS3. We aren't gonna wait around for ages, then get ripped off when Microsoft have a product out there that we all already know is very good and that all the titles we loved on Playstation are going to be available in their next reincarnation on the X Box 360'' So similar to my story and it raises a good point, iv'e decided to make the switch and go 360 this gen and if I have enough money towards the end I'll get a ps3 but so far there are just too many good games on the 360 and iv'e been ignoring them for so long out of spite and besides it's about the games and I have to take my hat off to ms they have done a good job.

It is almost as if they are making it easy for Microsoft to win this round of the console wars. I've always been a playstation (1 and 2) fan but I think Sony are relying too much on gamer loyalty for the PS3.
