We get the lowdown on Lionheads eagerly awaited follow-up to last years mega-hit...

Like it or loathe it you’ve got to admit that Liohead’s eagerly awaited Black & White caused quite a bit of attention when it was released last year on the PC. Speaking at the recent Games Developers Conference, Pete Molyneux let slip a few details regarding the forthcoming sequel, known simply at this point as Black & White 2.

Set in the same world as the original, you return as the God of the land to find the world in turmoil, tribal wars have broken out and as the divine being you can choose whether to try and find peace or help your tribe to become victors.

So Black & White 2 is set to be more combat orientated then its predecessor, to this extent a new disciple has been added to the fray. This new disciple can build up armies from other villagers, and it’s through him that you can direct the course of each battle, such as where you want to attack, etc…

The game will also introduce the ability to make weapons, allowing you to craft swords with which to equip your villagers. Highly useful in the ongoing situations. Lionhead have talked of upping the villager count quite considerably, expect battles with thousands of villagers against each other to be common place.

Of course your creature will still be about to smoke the peace-pipe or crush as many villagers as possible depending on your inclination, new miracles are set to be added and you’ll have a greater idea of what alignment you fall under thanks to an on-screen meter.

From these first details Black & White 2 already sounds like more of a game then the first title, with a definite direction and objectives. Don’t expect to see the game for awhile, if it’s anything like Molyneux’s other games it could be 2003 at the earliest before we see anything. Hopefully we’ll get our first chance to see something at this years E3, we’ll keep our eyes peeled.
