BioWare Eclipse Engine Details News
New details on BioWare’s next-generation game engine emerge…
By Chris LeytonPosted: 06/08/2004
Having recently confirmed the development of NeverWinter Nights 2, details on BioWareâ??s next-generation game engine have today become available.
Thanks to a recent listing on the United States Patent and Trademark Office, it appears that the Canadian based developer has registered the name â??BioWare Eclipse Engineâ?. Whilst the developer is being coy with regards to specific details, it has confirmed that the Eclipse Engine is in development and likely to amaze gamers when BioWare lift the wraps from it.
With both Knights of the Old Republic titles developed on the Odyssey Engine, and both NeverWinter Nights and its sequel built upon the Aurora Engine, rumours have begun to circulate as to what title will use the Eclipse Engine.
Some suggestions are that it will power Jade Empireâ??s â??entirely new graphics engineâ?, although we find this doubtful considering that BioWare have stated it to be their â??next-generationâ? engine; whilst the most popular theory is that it will either be used for the forthcoming PC title Dragon Age or an entirely new title altogether â?“ given that BioWare have farmed a large number of titles to Obsidian Entertainment, we deem the latter to be the most probable.
Weâ??ll have more information soon.
