Eidos confirms the release of a new content on the Xbox Live Marketplace from tomorrow...
Naval generals and 360 fans alike will get a little more from Eidos' surprise hit Battlestations: Midway, with confirmation that two new maps and a range of additional vehicles will be made available across the Xbox Live Marketplace from tomorrow.
Taking place during October 1944, The Battle of Sibuyan Sea is an additional multiplayer map, which allows players to take command of either the US fleet featuring the USS Iowa and USS Enterprise, or Japan's Kurita fleet featuring the super battleship Yamato and the ill-fated Musashi.
The Raid on Truk is an additional single-player map, which will likely surface in the game's Challenge modes. Based upon Operation Hailstone, players take command of the US fleet in a four-phase battle starting with a P-38 strike and leading to the command of the USS Enterprise.
Additionally, the package will also introduce a variety of new vehicles:
P-38 Lightning A fast, powerful and distinctive twin-engine interceptor and one of the most important American fighters of the Second World War. Its long range and twin engines made it well suited for duty in the Pacific.
Nakijima J1N1 Gekko The first Japanese aircraft designed and built specifically to intercept and destroy other aircraft at night. It was deadly against Bombers and as a powerful kamikaze plane against ships.
USS Iowa (BB-61) The lead battleship of its class. Nicknamed "The Big Stick", this famous flagship fought in numerous and significant battles in World War II and the Korean War.
IJN Shimakaze The IJN Shimakaze ("Island Wind') is considered to be the fastest and most powerful Destroyer of World War II and she was the only one of her class built.
Type A mini-sub The Type A mini-sub was a two-man submarine. Difficult to detect, the Type A submarines were used during the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and throughout the war.
[UPDATE]
Midway fans chomping at the bit for more Pacific action will have a little longer to wait it seems. Eidos contacted TVG late this afternoon to confirm that the downloadable package has been delayed to an unspecified point, and will now launch alongside the content for the PC version. Although a further release date hasn't been confirmed, Eidos have stated that it will appear before the end of March.
Additionally, it has also been reported that the package will cost 600 Microsoft Points, which seems a little pricey for us, though this has yet to be officially confirmed by Eidos at this stage.

Battlestations: Midway is a really great game. I don't really like how "Slowpaced" the game is, but after a while, it gets good. The command feature should've been updated more, as well as adding more vehicles. I'd really love to get a mission where you drop the A-bomb on Japan or something like that. I think they should add the B-29, B-25, the Kiko, and some bi-planes for Re-con and such....In particular, GREAT GAME! KEEP UP THE WORK!

I found the game fun and somewhat addictive but I wish that the command features could have been improved. Also there needs to be a save point or two during the different sections of the campaigns so you don't have to play the early parts over and over again. I would like to see some new games along the same line.

This is the ideal game for long winter evenings with permutations that challenge even the most gifted. When you think you've done it all, think again!

It is certainly a bit sedate at times, but it can all too easily get quite manic when you jump from one ship to the next...

I'm far from 12 years old. But talk all the trash you want because that's what makes you idiots feel special. There may be a lot to do in the game but it is slow paced. If you don't beleive me, play the game.

It's one of the most intense games I've played this year :) But seriously, it doesn't get more frantic then trying to organise a fleet, diverting a chugging aircraft carrier between a wave or torpedoes, screaming in a vertical dive bomb and realising that a submarine has surfaced right next to your command ship... It's goooood... and attack in the Batle of Coral Sea...
