Warner Bros. Interactive announces Batman: Arkham City as the follow-up to 2009's Arkham Asylum...

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has officially announced Batman: Arkham City as the title for Rocksteady Studios' follow-up to last year's Batman: Arkham Asylum. The game will launch on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC towards the end of next year.

This is despite previous indications of a 2010 release for the title, although rumours from the retail sector did point towards an early 2011 launch for the game earlier this year. Nonetheless, autumn 2011 is certainly later than we'd initially expected, although it does fit with a standard two-year development cycle for the series.

As hinted in the initial teaser trailer, Arkham City is an all-new penitentiary for Gotham City's criminally insane super-villains. This time Arkham's location is right in the heart of the city and fills a whole district of Gotham that's surrounded by heavily fortified walls.
