Official Olympic Games title heading to the Playstation2 exclusively…

Sony today announced a partnership with International Sports Multimedia (ISM), exclusive licensee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), to develop a Playstation2 exclusive title based on the forthcoming 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

Currently in development at EuroCom in close co-operation with ISM and the Organising Committee to ensure the authenticity of the game; â??Athens 2004â?? features seven venues â?“ the Olympic Stadium for Athletics, the Markopoulo Olympic Shooting Centre, the Olympic Aquatic Centre, the Nikaia Olympic Weightlifting Hall, the Olympic Indoor Hall for Gymnastics, the Markopoulo Olympic Equestrian Centre and the historic Panathinaiko Stadium for Archery. These have all been created using accurate architectural plans and photography to ensure an exact replication of the real thing.

Using advanced motion=-capture techniques, the game is claimed to deliver â??unprecedented control and flexibility allowing for more complex and realistic movementâ?.

An extensive number of events will feature in the game, which should be enough to tire anybody; including:

  • 100m Backstroke
  • 100m Breaststroke
  • 100m Butterfly
  • 100m Freestyle
  • High Jump
  • Long Jump
  • Triple Jump
  • Discus Throw
  • Hammer Throw
  • Javelin Throw
  • Pole Vault
  • Shot Put
  • 100m
  • 200m
  • 400m
  • 800m
  • 1500m
  • 100m Hurdles
  • 110m Hurdles
  • Decathlon
  • Heptathlon
  • Gymnastics
  • Archery
  • Show jumping
  • Skeet
  • Weightlifting

â??Athens 2004â?? is scheduled for release in July, 2004; weâ??ll have more information soon.
