Ubisoft Montreal's Patrice Désilets reminds the gaming community that the first Assassin's Creed sold 8 million copies...
Speaking at E3 last week, the Producer of Assassin's Creed and its incoming sequel, Patrice Désilets has stated that the original game has now totalled sales of a whopping 8 million copies, putting it right in amongst 2007's commercial heavy hitters.
Désilets made the comments in an interview with Joystiq where he said, "We sold some eight million copies of it, you know," while fielding a question about the original game's mixed reviews and criticisms of repetitive gameplay. "Some people really enjoyed and loved the game," he continued.
We have to admit that we didn't exactly really enjoy and love the game, although it certainly had some potential. Here's hoping that Assassin's Creed II fulfils this potential and delivers an absolute corker.

Also, even if the comment wasn't spot-on, then it hardly makes its writer a "complete and utter failure in life". That's a little harsh, don't you think? They might be really good at tiddlywinks or something.

I think it's a very apt comment. The original Assassin's Creed focussed on stunning visuals and lavish presentation, but completely forgot about putting an enjoyable game experience.
Thankfully they hugely improved upon it for the sequel.

This game is a perfect example of what is wrong with game development in this era of next-generation consoles. All the time and money is spent on graphics, neglecting the development of gameplay. Repetively tedious and tediously repetitive, this game is an absolute insult to the consumer and gamer. The developers should not be rewarded for producing this abomination. Don't buy it.

the storyline is good and the graphics are awesome but the game structure is repetitive boring, and ultimately disappointing. It will however make a lot of money and the developers have blatantly spent more time on the storyline and the development of sequels than the actual content of the game itself.
